Optio represents a specific architectural bet: that the unit of AI coding work should be a Kubernetes pod with a complete development environment, not a browser tab or IDE extension. This approach trades the simplicity of tools like GitHub Copilot for the scalability of container orchestration — the ability to run dozens of AI agents simultaneously, each working on a different ticket in isolation.

The tradeoff is trust. A McKinsey study found developers can complete coding tasks up to twice as fast with generative AI, but Stack Overflow’s 2025 survey showed 46 percent of developers distrust AI-generated code accuracy. An autonomous system that takes a ticket, writes code, iterates on review feedback, and merges without human intervention amplifies both the productivity gains and the trust concerns.
