Amazon CodeWhisperer
An AI coding assistant, formerly Amazon CodeWhisperer, now part of Amazon Q Developer, that writes, debugs, and refactors code natively in your IDE.
Amazon CodeWhisperer has been rebranded and significantly expanded into Amazon Q Developer, an AI development platform launched in April 2024. This platform provides real-time code suggestions across over 25 languages, autonomously implements features, writes tests, refactors code, and scans for security vulnerabilities directly within the IDE. It offers deep AWS-native intelligence, understanding IAM policies, Lambda functions, CloudFormation templates, and AWS SDKs, and can analyze projects for architectural refactorings.
Amazon CodeWhisperer evolved into the broader Amazon Q Developer ecosystem by March 2026, showing strong integration with AWS services and solid user ratings (4.6/5 on G2). While it maintains a strong position within the AWS ecosystem, it faces intense competition from GitHub Copilot and Cursor in the broader coding assistant market.
